Hi everyone. This is pretty interesting for me since I have my blog that I write daily and now I'm hopping on board for another blog to let more of you in on the process of TOTSEB.
So here we go. On my end, while I am in the middle of promoting ROOMS, I am also a member of this merger and directing Squiggy and The Goldfish. In fact, my rehearsals begin tonight and I'm really excited. Most of my work as of late has been as a producer and it's been a while since I've gotten the chance to direct. I really enjoy directing and look forward to working on this show especially, because it's a show that I have wanted to direct for at least 4 years.
I first saw Squiggy in RI, where my friend and mentor, Lenny Schwartz, and I went to college together. It was a show that moved me to the point of tears. I was laughing and then the next minute I was shocked. I got a lump in my throat. That in my opinion is what good theatre does. I think this is a show that challenges us to ask what really is the impact of the things we say and do to others. It holds a mirror up to life and then shatters that mirror and asks us to look at each piece. I once had a director who told me that as an actor he wanted me to bleed on stage for him. That was what it meant to be fully committed to the project in his mind. We didn't actually bleed. I mean, then we would have been this show.
What we did do was give it our all and that's what I plan to do with this project.
I'm not just going to direct it.
I'm going to bleed for it.
And you all are on that journey with me and the rest of the cast and crew. Feel free to add this blog to your mailing lists as you'll hear a lot about the process of all of these shows and get a rare inside look at the behind the scenes world of producing.
We look forward to taking you on the journey.
Excelsior!
